Cretan Dakos with Greenolia Olive Oil & Olives — the ultimate summer delight 2048 1365 Greenolia

When summer is at its peak and the heat calls for light, refreshing, and deeply flavorful dishes, there’s one recipe that stands out for its simplicity and richness: the traditional Cretan Dakos.  A dish that brings authentic Greek taste to your table — the crunchy barley rusk, juicy fresh tomato, creamy feta, and of course… the premium Greenolia extra virgin olive oil and Greenolia Kalamata olives.

From the very first bite, it transports you to the narrow streets of Crete, under the blazing Aegean sun, in courtyards filled with vines and basil. We’ve prepared the ideal version of this beloved meze, perfectly adapted for the Greek summer — simple, refreshing, and deeply Mediterranean.

Ingredients (for 2 servings)

  • 2 Cretan barley rusks
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, grated
  • 150 g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2–3 tbsp Greenolia extra virgin olive oil Koroneiki
  • 10–12 Greenolia Kalamon olives, pitted and sliced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Fresh basil or parsley (optional)
  • Salt & freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the rusks
Lightly sprinkle the rusks with a bit of water to soften them, without soaking them completely.
  2. Assemble
Place the rusks on plates. Top with the grated tomato, season with salt, pepper, and oregano. Add the crumbled feta on top.

  3. Garnish
Add the Greenolia olives and drizzle generously with Greenolia olive oil. Finish with a little more oregano and optionally, some fresh basil or parsley.

  4. Serve
Serve immediately as a meze or a light summer meal — perfect for hot days and warm evenings.

Dakos is more than just a salad. It’s a culinary experience full of history, tradition, and the aromas of the Greek land. With ingredients like Greenolia olive oil and olives, we elevate this humble dish into something truly special — a pure expression of Mediterranean flavor.

Try this recipe this summer, on your own or with friends, as a main dish or as a shared appetizer. And remember:  when the ingredients are of the highest quality, simplicity becomes art. Enjoy!
